You keep your French plates all the way home
This is the question we are asked most often. The answer is simple: your car stays registered in France and travels on its French plates all the way to your country. Nobody removes your plates at the border.
The vehicle enters under temporary admission: customs record the entry, and the vehicle must leave before the deadline. That is a completely different thing from a permanent export — there, yes, the plates change, because the vehicle is re-registered in the destination country.
And that is exactly why this insurance exists: a French-plated car in Morocco needs proof of cover that is valid there.
Why these seven countries are different
Since 1 April 2024 the paper green card no longer exists in France: police read the plate and query the insured-vehicles database. The system works across the whole European Economic Area with no formality at all.
Outside that zone, the plate is no longer enough. You need an international insurance certificate issued by your insurer — and that is where it breaks down: a large share of French insurers have simply removed these destinations from their policies.
So the question is not "how much does it cost" but "who will accept". That is broker work, not comparison-site work.
What we actually do
We do not use our online quote engine: it cannot price these destinations. We build the file by hand with a partner who accepts these countries, come back to you with the real price and conditions, and you decide.
